Think of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which forced a nation to confront the horrors of slavery and paved the way for emancipation. Think of Charles Dickens, whose novels exposed the Victorian soul, leading to the first real child labour laws and social reforms.

These writers did not just report the news. They created worlds that forced the public to feel the weight of injustice.

The Power of the “What If” in Third-World Reform

In developing nations, and specifically here in Nigeria, we are often trapped in a cycle of “realistic” despair. We analyse our poverty. We document our corruption. We lament our ethnic divisions. But analysis only tells us where we are—it does not tell us where we could go.

Imaginative writing is the bridge between the Nigeria we see and the Nigeria we deserve. A good story bypasses tribal defences. For a country like ours, fiction is the ultimate reform tool—allowing us to rehearse a better version of ourselves before implementing it in reality.

Akajiofo Press: Grounded in Ofo na Ogu

At the heart of our mission is a return to a fundamental principle of Igbo etymology and morality: Ofo na Ogu.
